Hubby and I met friends for afternoon tea at the Mayfair Hotel today. We booked an offer through afternoontea.co.uk which had a few good deals on. We arrived on time and were shown to our table. We ordered Jasmine, Earl Grey, Infusions, and Organic Lapsong teas, and the full afternoon tea menu for each person.
L-R: Not sure what the pink cake is called, viennese mille feuile, strawberry tartlet, banana choc macaroon, choc gateux and fruit triffle in the middle.
Scones, jam, clotted cream and fruit cake slices.
No photos of the finger sandwiches, as we got through them before I thought about photos. We had the usual egg, cucumber and cream cheese, ham, smoked salmon, cheddar and apple chutney. The scones were a bit dry, but still tasty with a generous helping of jam and cream. The fruit cake was gorgeous. The little cakes were very rich and tasty, however, we struggled to finish the lot.
The food was delicious and portions generous, however we were left on our own, and no one came to ask if we were alright or needed a hot water top-up. I think we’ve had better service for afternoon tea elsewhere.
Food aside, it was lovely to catch up with friends and while away our time on a gorgeous summer’s day in Mayfair.
